Another walk, another sign

Sneaking around a closed-off building at Simon Fraser University on Saturday, we discovered a forbidden detour that's so well-used that it has its own no-trespassing/danger sign. We followed what's obviously university tradition and ignored it. Photo by John Denniston.

 
 If you're looking for new walking routes to vary your Covid routine, stay away from the Simon Fraser University campus on Burnaby Mountain on a cold grey day. Bleak doesn't quite encapsulate the vast  empty stretches of concrete, the ugly decaying buildings, the water stains, the moss and lichen creeping into neglected corners. On a deserted Saturday, with everything closed and nobody else around, it looked like a setting for a nasty police procedural or an end-times movie. We decided the walk  would at least make us appreciate our home territory more, and left. On our way down the mountain, it rained.
